Katherine N. Ballenger Winchester - Katherine N. Ballenger, age 101, formerly of Winchester, IL passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Griggsville Estates in Griggsville, IL. She was born November 7, 1922, in Scott County, IL to Wilburn Francis and Louise Eleanor Ehlert Daniel. Katherine met the love of her life, Leonard Ballenger at a dance in Winchester. They married on January 24, 1946, in Manhattan, KS where he was stationed with the U.S. Army, and he preceded her in death August 7, 1984. Katie attended Winchester Community High School and graduated with the class of 1941. After WWII was over, Leonard and Katie settled in Jacksonville, IL. Katie worked with the JC Penney company in Jacksonville for 22 years and retired in May 1981. Katie made her home in Florence, IL and was featured in a book about people living along the Illinois River. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and Florence United Methodist Church. Katie was a talented artist who enjoyed oi
